st. FAUSTINO OPEN DAY 2019: on october 10, POLO SANT’ANNA VALDERA hosts the patron’s day event and invites the public to celebrate science and research
As it celebrates its Patron St. Faustino on October 10, Pontedera and the Biorobotics Institute at the Polo Sant’Anna Valdera host a Science festival to promote research conducted in their labs and share research outcomes with the local community. Patron’s Day is an annual celebration gathering researchers from all disciplines of science and robotics to explore and debate issues of scientific interest such as water pollution and soft robots on deep sea, exoskeletons for human-robotic interaction, and robot technology in healthcare settings.
Over the years, the Patron’s Day has been an outstanding success. This year, the St. Faustino Open Day gives young people the chance to explore a range of issues that affect today’s world, the impact of climate change on industry, safety in healthcare, and new treatments for osteoarthritis. The Open Day also aims to encourage students to study science, technology and engineering. Events for all ages, ranging from talks, exhibitions, workshops and interactive activities will be held 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.
Researchers will discuss the EU funded project ADMAIORA and project ARTES 4.0 funded by the Italian Ministry for Economic Development.
ADMAIORA (ADvanced nanocomposite MAterIals fOr in situ treatment and ultRAsound-mediated management of osteoarthritis) is a research project funded under the Horizon 2020 EU Framework Programme coordinated by Professor Leonardo Ricotti . ADMAIORA explores the potential of smart nanocomposite materials and stem cells, in synergy with external physical stimuli (based on low-intensity ultrasound), for stopping the degeneration of cartilage during osteoarthritis at early stages.
ARTES 4.0 - Advanced Robotics and enabling digital Technologies & Systems 4.0., describes activities performed at the Competence Centre to promote and accelerate innovation through public-private partnerships. Combining technological expertise, research programs, technology transfer and education it embraces digital technologies and Industry 4.0 innovation.
